Lots of front pages were devoted to the historic Supreme Court decision on the mandate in President Barack Obama's Affordable Health Care Act. The best front page by a GateHouse paper is this one by The Independent.

(Check out the attached gallery to see how other GateHouse papers presented the SCOTUS ruling.)

The bold headlie tops off the pacakge. I'm not a big fan of using color in newsy headlines, but I think this was chosen to help set if off against the Supreme Court building in Washington, D.C. Even so, the color and shadows of the building image and the dark blue headline dont' mesh that well.

I love the how-they-voted visual, showing mugs of the justices, organized in rows of for and against. These mugs carry much more information than an exterior shot of the building, perhaps these could have been the more dominant visual. The building doesn't add much to the package. Too bad a photo of locals reacting to the ruling wasn't available.

A photo such as that would be different and in addition to the nice set of mugs and quotes down the right rail. Great way to localize a national story.

Really well done!
