Taking hundreds of lives, storms across the south have captured the attention of U.S. media. Spring storms are affecting other places, too. Just ask the staff at the Observer-Dispatch who covered the heck out of local storms that included tornadoes, heavy rain and flooding.

Storm coverage covers the front completely. Big banner head stretches from side to side. Above that is a bold "special report" label touting a broader package inside. and online. Below the headline is a secondary layer of information that reads:

2 TORNADOES IN 3 DAYS • SECOND WETTEST APRIL • ROADS STILL A MESS

Main story and dominant flood photo occupy the top half of the page. Below that, storm coverage is divided into three topics — residents, infrastructure and businesses, as noted in the reverse labels. Each topic includes a photo and jumping story.

To the right is an expansive content promotion package showing what readers will find inside. Brilliant idea to include a callout for readers' storm photos. I'll bet that gallery will be impressive once the pics start coming in.

Great page.

Find the complete package on the O-D's home page.
