The Holland Sentinel named front page of the weekend (Aug. 20-22)

The Holland Sentinel's Sunday front page centerpiece story follows up a Brookings Institution report that compares the city of Holland, Mich., to other cities with similar industrial structures in the 1980s, and lists a few cities to which Holland should aspire to be more like in the the future.

That last part is referenced in the main headline, Peer Pressure.

Fort Wayne, Ind., was named in the report as a city similar to Holland in the 1908s for its industrial structure at the time. Knoxville, Tenn., is one of the cities Holland should follow to experience more industrial and economic growth.

Both cities are represented here in the main visual, with lists that compare the city's population, exports and other demographics. Circular images show parts of each city's skyline to give a sense of place that a map alone cannot.

The design is nice — big, bold visuals that depart from the norm to surprise readers with information. The headline overall is a bit weak. The information listed with each city is really nice.

I spent some time on the Brookings site to no avail looking for the report to link here. Would have been nice to include a link with the story, if one exists.

Overall, the page design is clean adn well organized, with breakouts or promotions with most front page stories.

Nice!
