The Pekin (Ill.) Daily Times gave quite a wake up call to readers this week with a fresh redesign that coincided with a move to morning delivery. The changes to the design and delivery time took place with the Monday, Feb. 22 edition. (More pages below)

The Kirksville Daily Express in northeast Missouri took part in the GateHouse Media News & Interactive Division Newsroom Incubator program, which helps newsrooms through redesigns and product development.

Arkadelphia, Ark. newspaper gets a remake

The Daily Siftings Herald, a small GateHouse Media newspaper in Arkansas, has launched a redesign full of new features, more color and new entry points.

 

Some recent front pages show the new look of the Siftings Herald.

The Macomb Journal was one of the first GateHouse papers to go through the News and Interactive Division's incubator program back in 2007. The page on the left is from June of this year. The page on the right is The Voice.

The redesign of Vacation News

A part of the Lake Media group of daily and weekly newspapers and magazines in Missouri, Vacation News is a hugely popular magazine for the Lake of the Ozarks region. Originally intended for the thousands of tourists that visit during the warmer months, it quickly became a favorite publication of locals who were looking for entertainment options in their community. And rightfully so as it's difficult to drive down a street without seeing a niche restaurant or local pub.
 
The redesign didn't call for an overhaul of the content. In fact, just the opposite.

Redesign: Delaware weeklies launch major newsroom overhaul

The Dover Post Co., a group of weekly GateHouse Media newspapers in Delaware, launched a major overhaul of their products last week.

The hyper-local newspaper group went through the GateHouse Media Newsroom Incubator program over a several-month period.

Daily Messenger named top paper in its class in New York

For the third time in six years, the Daily Messenger has been honored as the best newspaper of its size in the state. The Messenger was named the Newspaper of Distinction by the New York State Associated Press Association at a banquet held Wednesday night in Syracuse.

The paper also received the honor in 2004 and 2006. All awards were for papers with circulations under 25,000.


Video: Weekly GateHouse paper makes big changes

The St. James Daily Leader, a weekly GateHouse Media newspaper in Missouri, recently launched a redesign.

The redesign included a complete overhaul of content and presentation, including a variety of reader involvement pieces like reader photos of the week, neighbor of the week and school pictures of the week.

They took part in the GateHouse Media Incubator program. Check out some images of their new-look paper and interviews with staff members.
