The Observer-Dispatch, a mid-size daily newspaper with a rapidly growing web site in
central New York, seeks a creative, versatile reporter to write news stories, enterprise,
features and special projects for both online and print. The O-D is a progressive,
collaborative news operation that focuses on delivering engaging local content to our
readers on various platforms.
The ideal candidate will be energetic, smart, curious and able to see the big picture. We
need to not only tell readers what happened but also what it means to them and their
community. In this ever-changing media landscape, a sense of adventure and humor also
help.
We are passionate about what we do here and are committed to both serving readers
and helping our journalists develop new skills. Situated at the base of the foothills of
the six million acre Adirondack Park, the Mohawk Valley is only a few hours drive
from Syracuse, Albany, New York City and Boston. Utica is a lively city with a diverse
population, many prominent colleges, great restaurants and lots of outdoor activities. An
appreciation (or at least high tolerance) for snow and cold weather is a plus.
Please send a letter with salary requirements, resume and work samples to Kris Worrell,
Editor, The Observer-Dispatch at kworrell@uticaod.com.
