Last week, I wrote about a few television stations that are doing Facebook Fan of the Day features and how that kind of feature would pair really nicely with "Subscriber of the Day," a feature a lot of newspapers run today.
A GateHouse Media newspaper, the Register Mail, in Central Illinois, today actually runs a Facebook Fan of the Day feature.
Jay Redfern, the assistant editor at the Register Mail wrote to me explaining what they've done:
"For the last three months, we have been running a Subscriber of the Day and a Facebook Fan of the Day on our newly redesigned Talk of the Day/Page 2. II, too, saw a local TV station doing Facebook Fan of the Day. The TV station actually takes some personal information like hobbies, interests about the person, and does a 20-second or so blurb about them on the evening news. We were a little reluctant to do much more than use the person's name and city of residence, for fear of invading their privacy. We only mention them in print, but now that I think about it, we should mention our Facebook Fan of the Day on Facebook, too."
Jay raises a fair point about their privacy and as I mentioned in my last blog, it may be worth posting something to your fans letting them know what you're planning and if they have issue, they could tell you they don't want to be part of the feature.
