When you are a reporter for a newspaper, it is important to make contacts, meet your readers and interact with them.

The same can be said for newspaper SEO. When you see something you like, or something that reminds you of someone else, it is important to share it with your online friends.

You guessed it: social media. There are different stories that may do well on different social media sites, but the most important thing to remember is to be "real" with your audience/friends/online acquaintences.

For example, whenever I complete a blog post –– particularly, if it is a good post with good information that I think others would enjoy ... and let's face it, what's not to enjoy when it comes to newspaper SEO? (wink!) –– I immediately post the URL on my Facebook wall, and then I send out a tweet with a shortened URL (now, Twitter automatically shortens the URL for you, which makes everything SO much easier).

The point is, I splash my blog posts all over as much of the Internet as possible. In the past few months, I haven't been tweeting and Facebook-ing my blogs as much –– part of me was lazy and another part was thinking, "Don't bug my friends with work-related blog posts on topics like newspaper SEO and the Associated Press Stylebook –– what a read."

But then I thought, hey, these boring topics are what I write about, and that is part of who I am! And Facebook and Twitter is for letting people know who you are!

So never be afraid to post the stories you've reported on, blog posts you've written or even photographs you took. You will be surprised to find out how many of your friends will love your work and will leave comments!

Give it a try. If you don't feel comfortable teasing your work on your personal social media profiles, then open new accounts that are solely for your work. Then ask your friends to follow those profiles, too.

An extra perk is that the more clicks your article gets from different locations on Earth, the more SEO authority you will garner. So your little sister who is studying abroad in Italy will give your article a big SEO boost if she decides to read it.

Any more ideas or suggestions for social media and how to tease your work on the Internet?
