When you post a story online, you always want to fill out the photo description/caption –– never leave it blank! This is proper newspaper SEO.

When you post a great story online with strong keywords/ keyword phrases and good links, don't forget to finish the equation with a keyword-optimized photo caption.

When you post a story online, you always want to fill out the photo description/caption –– never leave it blank! This is an important rule in newspaper SEO.

The photo caption is one more opportunity to tell Google what your story is about. So when writing the caption, get in one to two sentences. And don't forget to use the appropriate keywords.

Don't worry about links, not necessary in a photo caption. But you do want to get in all the important keywords like first and last names, city/town name, the date and any words that people might be searching for when trying to find your story.

Speaking of photo captions, use the same important keywords you're targeting (like the name of an official and the name of the location) in the naming convention. Use hyphens to separate the words so Google spiders (and readers) can better understand.

Once you have the right naming convention and two sentences with important keywords, your photo is optimized and it will help boost your story to its appropriate place in the rankings.
