Several GateHouse Media news organizations posted online polls with different angles on Sept. 11. Check out their approaches to reader engagement.
WHAT THEY DID:
The Repository in Canton, Ohio, asked readers if Sept. 11 should be a national Patriots Day holiday, and I saw a simliar question on several websites.
The State Journal-Register in Springfield, Ill., asked readers how they would mark 9/11.
And The Observer-Dispatch in Utica, N.Y., asked if readers think Americans are as patriotic now as they were 10 years ago after 9/11.
TAKEAWAYS: Remember to keep your poll questions timely, and choose topics that really have a variety of possible answers . Avoid "yes" or "no" answers. Keep questions short and easily digestible.
