The Enterprise and The Patriot Ledger will be giving readers and New England Patriots fans a lot to digest tomorrow with a big 12-page special section on the Super Bowl.

Yep, you're looking at tomorrow's pages today.

The big splash on the cover of the section is a nice art piece depicting the starting quarterback from each team. And for the die-hard sports nuts who devour stats, check out those numbers package with each cutout. The figures include quarterback ratings for both, as well as biographical info and career numbers for each QB playing against the opposing team — love it!

There are 12 pages in all. The two inside pages here a chock-full include stories and a rail of numbers nicely labeled "extra points."

Heres how The Enterprise and the Ledger promoted tomorrow's section on today's front pages:

Here's a closer look:

The package showcases "bizarre wagers a bettor can make on the Super Bowl." For example, the first item says: "How many times will Giselle Bundchen be shown on TV during the game?" Bundchen is the supermodel wife of New England quarterback Tom Brady. Fun stuff.

Chazy Dowaliby, editor of both GateHouse papers, describes the special section and who was involved.

Patriot Ledger/Enterprise sports editor Mark Torpey was asked to produce modular content for a Super Bowl special section that will be published on various days this week at all six GateHouse Media New England dailies, and shared with our cousin, The Bulletin in Norwich, Conn.

He collaborated with sister paper MetroWest Daily News sports editor Art Davidson on the story list and assignments.

He also sourced volumes of factoids, stats and small bites of information on the Patriots and the Giants from a variety of sources, selected material from shared pages from our partners at ProFootball Weekly and photos from our library.

The design/production challenge was to create editorial modules in quarter, half and full page units that other newspapers could select for their own special sections or to use as stand-alone stories run of paper.

Visuals editor/copy desk chief Jen Wagner designed the format bones of the pages, using typography from previous special reports and the Extra Points rail we run daily in the Ledger and Enterprise.

Mark designed, edited and produced all of the pages himself, including a number of ASFs, which re-purposed from a basic format used in his daily pages.

His theme for the cover – the quarterbacks face off – was boldly interpreted by graphics designer Dorene Reardon, who sourced two similar photographs of Brady and Manning, and PhotoShopped the images into a photo illustration that says it all.

The section came together in five days – assignment to completion.

Results: The Ledger and The Enterprise will publish a 12-page broadsheet section with strong print and digital advertising support.

A SUPER effort for our SUPER New England fans.

GO PATS!
