A information graphic that combines visuals and text can convey a lot of details in a relatively small space.
Take, for example, this fine Rockford Register Star graphic that shows a proposal for a massive downtown redevelopment project. Because this is merely an idea at this point, showing an illustrated bird's-eye view of the area in question is the perfect way to go.
The map shows exactly where the project could take place, what roads and streetscapes would be improved, how large the buildings might be, what kinds of businesses would occupy certain structures, where multiuse paths connect with other public access space, etc.
More than a dozen locations are identified and labeled to match the legend above.
The story begins at the right side and contains just a handful of paragraphs that are presented as an ASF
Both the story and the graphic have a general staff credit.
Find the story online here, along with video of Rockford's long range planner on the project and a photo gallery of the redevelopment area.
