The State Journal-Register in Springfield, Ill., offers online readers a package of prep football photos and links to plenty of other information for a complete Monday package.

WHAT THEY DID: In its homepage carousel, the SJ-R promotes a prep football photo package and links to its football landing page that offers scores, schedules, stories, photos and more. The carousel also links to a reader involvement callout for football photos.

TAKEAWAY: Use your carousel to round up related information to promote it. The carousel is visual vehicle on your websites. You'll want a strong piece of art to show up in the carousel. Absolutely never use a carousel without art. Specifically for football, as the season ends and playoffs begin, people will be looking for information. Consider the following content to package for football (these will be links):

Photo galleries

Video

Scores

Schedules

Game stories
