Jordan Shea, 13, of Halifax is putting her dog Winnie, a 9-month-old Labrador retriever, through the paces to serve a brother who is visually impaired. She adopted her last June from the Michigan-based Leader Dogs for the Blind.

In the photo above, Shea keeps her dog Winnie on a tight leash as she takes it to her grandfathers barbershop in Halifax, Friday, Jan. 27, 2012. Shea is training Winnie to be a leader dog for the blind. She got Winnie from Leader Dogs for the Blind in Michigan last summer, when the dog was a 6-week-old puppy. Now 7 months old, the black lab weights nearly 50 pounds. Shea must regularly take Winnie out in public on a leash as part of the dogs training program.
