STORY IDEAS

LABOR DAY

At the Denver Post, we are bringing back out "Job Boot Camp" series. We find people who are unemployed, tell their story, and then ask experts in employment training, HR departments, counseling, higher ed, resume writing, social networking and more to give them some real advice. The piece runs with photos and a tip box with useful info for anyone looking for work.

We did this last year for 10 weeks or so thinking the job situation was gonna get better by now. Two unexpected sidebars: Many people volunteered to be subjects. And several of them found work because of the exposure.

-- Ray Rinaldi, entertainment editor, Denver Post

For Labor Day, we're doing a reader come-on for "why I love my job." With the economy the way it is, it might make for an upbeat read.

-- Kathy Lu, features editor, The Roanoke (Va.) Times

VIDEO IDEA

The Detroit Free Press produced a video of a Tuesday market in the city, with great close shots of produce reaction from all the characters that show up for the mid-week market.
