Story idea: After the Supreme Court rules on health care law

Obama health care
Barack Obama signing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act at the White House on March 23, 2010.

The Supreme Court likely will release its ruling on the 2010 Affordable Care Act on Thursday. Ways to localize the ruling:

-- If the law is upheld, small-business owners may breathe a sigh of relief, as part of the law is aimed at keeping insurance costs down for them. Talk to small-business owners in your area for reaction.

-- If the entire law is thrown out, insurance for young adults on their parents' plans and prescription drug coverage for seniors will be in jeopardy. Also, states could take up their own health-care legislation in the absence of a federal plan. Was your state one that deemed the federal health-care law unconstitutional?

-- Finally, parts of the law could be upheld, while others are struck down. A likely victim is the law's requirement for almost every American to carry health insurance, or the so-called individual mandate. This could affect those with pre-existing conditions, in that protections against those Americans being denied insurance or being charged hefty premiums is linked to the individual mandate. How many people in your area would this affect?

Also, please note that GateHouse News Service will syndicate a carousel item to your sites shortly after the ruling, and will create a 5 things to know piece on the outcome for use online and in your next print edition.
