Here is the proper way to spell some of the major U.S. companies, as well as their ticker symbols.
The corporate name should be used in any story in which the subject matter could affect a company's business, for example, in an earnings report or any story on an incident that could affect the company's stock. For these, use the formal name used by the New York Stock Exchange or the Nasdaq. For all other stories, the formal name is not necessary on first reference. For example, Allstate (sted Allstate Corp.) is preferable.
