More AP Olympics style tips

Ask the Editor recently has answered several Olympics-related questions. Here’s what AP has to say on the issues:

- Olympiad is not the same thing as Olympics. “Olympiad is the four-year period starting Jan. 1 of the Olympics year. Olympiads are numbered in Roman numerals from the 1896 Athens Games. The XXX Olympiad including the London Games began Jan. 1, 2012.”

- AP doesn’t have a preference on “Olympic fever” and “Olympics fever.” So feel free to use whichever sounds better to you, but try to remain consistent.

- Here’s what AP has to say about using “medaled” (or “medalled,” as the questioner wrote): “It's an informal usage, often in direct quotes. Dictionaries list the single-l spelling first for verb forms.”
