Last week GateHouse's special sections desk, an arm of GateHouse News Service as well as the Design Houses, created our first section -- a graduation tab for the Rockford Register Star. That's our cover to the left.
The special sections desk does editing and pagination for the niche products of the newspapers transitioning to the Design House -- products that used to be done by these papers' newsroom staffs.
The desk is in the Downers Grove, Ill., News & Interactive offices, and the grad tab was done in Saxotech -- the first time our designers had worked in it -- and with the help of Rockford providing copy, photos and layouts on time, we were able to produce it smoothly!
This week we're working on the GateHouse Media New England North unit's Summer Fun Guide, and we'll start work on the Chelmsford (Mass.) Fourth of July parade preview section. We get more work to do as more papers transition to the Design Houses.
If you haven't already heard from me about what this desk will do for you, you will -- I have weekly calls with folks moving to the Design House, and if you launch in late August or later, you're next on my list of folks to introduce to the special sections desk.
