Major progress has been made by the Design House launch team!
People from Downers Grove, Rockford and Framingham met April 24-27 in Massachussetts to decide how Saxotech will be set up best for local newspapers and the Design Houses. They also finalized ways to use the system for optimal workflow and communication. And they continued to work on the basic building blocks needed in the system for creating pages.
One term you'll be hearing a lot in the future: Story package. In Saxotech, a story package is basically a "folder" that holds all of its related files: the story and its description, breakout boxes, photo assignment, photos, photo galleries, video and more. As you can tell, it will be a major organizational tool for all of us.
Looking ahead: Newsrooms launching in June can expect two kinds of training in May: one for new newsroom content initiatives (regional in-person training) and one for hands-on Saxotech learning (webinar).
Rockford:
Cubicles have been removed from the former newsroom (future Design House space), and major demolition begins this week. Ceiling tiles already have been taken down, as well as walls from two former offices.
Three new employees have signed on to start in June.
Framingham:
Construction and painting are just about done in the new sales area. Up next? Carpeting.
Once that's installed, cubicles can be rebuilt and sales staffers can migrate down the hall to their new home.
That major move will allow the Design House space to be revamped.
