Allison Hudson, editor of the Donaldsonville (La.) Daily Chief, took a proactive approach to a Father's Day readers callout, and reaped the rewards.
WHAT SHE DID: Back in April, Allison visited local elementary schools and gave students a form to fill out. She got the filled out forms back - 73 of them! - and published the results in the paper for Father's Day. According to Allison: "The following day, parents and grandparents came in and thanked me because they said it was the best gift they could have ever received. One grandmother even came in to get a copy and frame it for her grandson to give to his father on father's day. It was so sweet and received much positive feedback from the community."
THE TAKEAWAY: A little upfront effort can go a long way. Allison invested the time and effort to contact local schools and coordinate an effort with teachers that paid off in a big way. She had a great Father's Day edition filled with community content, that touched readers' hearts.
