The Reading (Mass.) Advocate brought multimedia skills to a middle school play and reaped the rewards.

WHAT THEY DID: Reporter Steven Ryan did a nice Q&A with the director of a production of "Cinderella" at the local middle school as an advance for the play. Photographer Nicole Goodhue Boyd shot a lovely photo gallery of the dress rehearsal. Three of her photos were used as the centerpiece for that week's edition, with a nice refer to the rest of the photos online.

THE TAKEAWAY: The paper was going to do an advance of the play as part of their normal community coverage. Thinking in multimedia terms, the Advocate staff brought nice layers to their story, and helped boost web traffic in a slow holiday week - the week the photo gallery ran was the week of Martin Luther King Day, and traffic increased by double digits over the week before.
