Best of the Day: Community Partner - video! (2/2/12)

Woburn (Mass.) Advocate editor Kathie Ragsdale's new video series is a video twist on community partner journalism.

WHAT SHE DID: From Editor-in-Cheif Kathy Cordeiro: "Called Your Neighbor, she invites regular people to talk about why they love parts of the town.  Peggy Brown loves the senior center; Gerry Kehoe loves Horn Pond; and coming next week a Woburnite will tell us there's a lot to love about the library."

THE TAKEAWAY: As Cordeiro said "This has such a hometown vibe." It really does. In essence, it does what we want our community partner journalism elements to do: get new faces and voices into our papers that wouldn't otherwise be there. This video series does the same thing for our websites. You could add another layer to this by making your video subjects the focus of your community partner journalism element in print, asking them how long they've lived in town, what neighborhood they live in - different topics than they address in the video. Refer the online element in your print peice and refer the print element in the summary below your video.
