Best of the Day: Use Storify to add social media stream to your story (6/26/12)

Storify is a digital tool that aggregates social media chatter around a particular topic. In this case, it was the latest black bear sighting in Eastern Massachusetts. (Simmons did this with the first black bear sighting, of the now-famouse Cape Cod Bear.)

WHAT SHE DID: Regional Digital Editor Nicole Simmons knew that yet another bear sighting in an unlikely place in Massachusetts would set off chatter on social media. She used Storify, a digital social media aggregation too,l to collect all the posts about the bear on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, Instagram and other social media sites. Once she created her Storify - it's drag and drop process - she used the embed code to put the Storify on a story page in Zope.

THE TAKEAWAY: Storify is an easy-to-use tool that adds an interesting - sometimes fun - layer to your storytelling. So many people are on social media these days, and there are so many different social media platforms, that it's a reader service to pull all of those conversations together in one place. When you think a story is going to fire up the social media universe, use Storify to curate and display that chatter.
