We saw this one during Inner Circle evaluation week: Facebook comments published with a story - in print. We thought: What a good idea!
WHAT THEY DID: Marshfield (Mass.) Mariner reporter Mary Jane Hanron put out a call on Facebook for comments about how to improve school lunches to go with an upcoming story about challenges facing the school lunch program.
She let her Facebook fans know she might use their comments in a story. The fans responded, and White added selected comments as a sidebar to her story.
THE TAKEAWAY: Soliciting comments on an issue for an upcoming story is a great way to encourage engagement on Facebook. Using them in print adds a new dimension to your print product and calls attention to the face that you have a Facebook page. Like we said: A great idea!
