Big Bang Boom fireworks show
A couple watches the Fourth of July “Big Bang Boom” fireworks show Monday night at Lake Storey Park. Thousands turned out for a day filled with fireworks, cookouts and swimming at the park.

4 story ideas for the Fourth of July:

1. When will readers be traveling since the holiday is on a Wednesday? How does that compare with AAA's findings? How do these stats compare with travel in July Fourths past? Could be an indicator of how people feel about the economy, compared with the "staycations" many have taken in recent years.

2. July Fourth has fireworks, barbecues, swimming -- what are some nontraditional ways people celebrate? Does anyone locally treat July 4 as a holiday like Christmas or Halloween, with decor, flags, etc.?

3. Profile people in your community events like parades, festivals, etc. Why do they help coordinate these, or volunteer for them, etc.?

4. Safety is key this holiday, between fireworks, heat and sun, traveling and more. Provide tips for event-goers, campers, swimmers, kids and adults.
