Labor Day drivers off to annoy the locals in this Dave Granlund cartoon.

Labor Day is coming up fast. Some potential story ideas before and after the holiday:

-- Travel, weather and gas prices: Drivers may be in for an expensive weekend in terms of gas prices, most recently affected by Tropical Storm/Hurricane Isaac in the Gulf Coast. Also, more Americans are expected to travel this weekend.

-- End of summer; back to school: This weekend is the unofficial end of summer, and for many students the official end, as they head back to school. So what is on readers' summer bucket lists for the weekend? What are some things they can do locally that either end this weekend or are not to be missed before summer winds down?

-- Look ahead to fall: Weather has been weird this year. We had early spring and early summer, so when will fall plants bloom, when will leaves change, when will apples and other fall fruit be ready to eat? What festivals are coming up for autumn, Halloween or homecoming?
