The Local Media Association, formerly Suburban Newspapers of America, has named the Downers Grove Reporter as having the best Editorial page in its circulation class.
The group also awarded an Honorable Mention to Jerry Moore for his Opinion column.
The Local Media Association is a professional trade association that specifically serves the suburban and community newspaper industry. This year’s contest included thousands of entries from across North America.
Moore has also been named a finalist for his Editorial Writing in this year’s Chicago Headline Club’s Lisagor Awards. Moore has two entries in this category — one from the Berwyn Life and one from the Lemont Reporter/Met — so he’ll be competing against himself. In last year’s contest, Moore took home first place in both Editorial Writing and Opinion Column.
In addition, Jes Spivak has been named a finalist in the Design category for her design work on the Westmont Progress.
The Chicago Headline Club, the largest Society of Professional Journalists chapter in the country, established the Peter Lisagor Awards in 1977. Lisagor was the Chicago Daily News' Washington bureau chief from 1959 to 1976, and gained national recognition for his syndicated column.
Award winners will be announced May 4 in Chicago.
Moore is the Opinions editor for Suburban Life Publications, the GateHouse company that publishes 22 newspapers in the western Chicago suburbs, plus more than 60 community-based websites. Spivak is a designer on Suburban Life’s presentation team.
