With 2011 in the rear view mirror and 2012 well underway, the Beauregard Daily News is announcing staff changes that will usher the community newspaper into a new era.
Linda Barron has taken over the reins as Editor of the Beauregard Daily News.
"I am excited about the promotion and I am working toward making the Beauregard Daily News more community-oriented," she said. "There are several positive things in the works and I am looking forward to bringing these to fruition."
In addition to Barron, the Beauregard Daily News will have a new byline in the newsroom as well. Erica Fay has joined the team as a staff writer.
Raised in Louisiana, Barron pursued a career in photography in Nashville in 1994. In 1998, she and her two sons, Jason and Jamie Gibson, moved to Arkansas to be near family, which afforded her the opportunity to further her photography career.
In 2000, Barron married Tom Barron, who has two children of his own — Jennifer and Tyler.
"I don't believe in saying 'step', so these are all my children, all four of them," Linda Barron said. "And I have a wonderful son-in-law, Kenneth, and two grandchildren, Anna and William, with another one on the way in March."
While in Arkansas, Linda began her career as a writer with the local daily newspaper, the Blytheville Courier, where she worked for about five years as a staff writer and photographer, with a splash of page design thrown in.
Linda won several awards for her writing abilities as well as photography and graphic design.
In 2006, she left the Courier and opened a photography studio, which remained open until she and Tom relocated to DeRidder for job-related purposes.
She joined the Beauregard Daily News team in May, 2010, as a staff writer and photographer and soon began to work diligently to learn more about page design, editing and anything else pertaining to the newspaper business.
"I have all the confidence in the world that Linda will be the eyes and ears of Beauregard Parish and serve that community well," said Brian Trahan, Executive Editor of GateHouse Media Louisiana. "She will work hard to make sure your local paper provides the news you want to read — whether it's in our print edition or on our website."
Fay was born in Pineville but her family settled in the sleepy little community of Elmer where she attended Oak Hill School.

Fay was born in Pineville but her family settled in the sleepy little community of Elmer where she attended Oak Hill School.
In 2001 she published two poems which jump started her writing career. Fay graduated in the spring of the same year and entered Northwestern State University that fall. She graduated in May of 2004 with an Associate Degree in General Studies with the emphasis in Literature and Professional Writing and in December of the same year she married Shaun Fay.
Over the next few years she and her husband had two children, Christopher, and Russell who are the highlights of her life.
In 2006 the family moved into the DeRidder area and settled into a comfortable home and life.
Fay had accepted a career position within Louisiana Binding Service in 2009, however in 2011, they merged with Kofile, Inc. and the DeRidder location was shutdown.
On Jan. 24 Fay began working as a staff writer for the Beauregard Daily News.
"I hope to further my writing career for as long as I am able to hold a pen and type," Fay said. "I am excited to be entering into the field of journalism and look forward to assisting the community with news and local events."
She added, "I appreciate all of the positive feedback I have received from the community since accepting the position."
"There are times when you meet people you know have that certain nose for being a reporter," Executive Editor Brian Trahan said. "The minute I sat down with Erica I knew she had it. I'm looking forward to seeing how she blossoms with our newspaper."
