Lesley Valadez, assistant managing editor for news & lifestyles for Suburban Life Publications in Downers Grove, Ill., has been selected to participate in the Poynter Leadership Academy in October.

During the weeklong program, participants will learn how to lead newsrooms during challenging times in the industry and get ideas for how to best take advantage of the latest tools and strategies to produce the journalism people want with limited resources.

In addition, participants will receive personalized coaching on how to be the kind of manager newsrooms need during changing times.

Valadez, a graduate of GateHouse Media’s LEDE program, joins a small group of editors from across the country gathering at the Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, Fla. for what Poynter calls its “most ambitious annual leadership program.”
