Suburban Life editorials, columns honored with Lisagor Awards

Jerry Moore, opinions editor for Suburban Life Publications, was named the winner in two categories last week at the Peter Lisagor Awards for Exemplary Journalism.

The awards contest, in its 34th year, is organized by the Chicago Headline Club, the country’s largest Society of Professional Journalists chapter.

Moore repeated as the winner for editorial writing. The other finalist in this category was Joseph Aaron of the Chicago Jewish News.

This year, Moore also won for news column or commentary. The other finalists in this category were the Chicago Jewish Star and Tina Valentino of Neighbors magazine.

Moore competed on behalf of Suburban Life, parent company of this website, in the division for small nondaily publications.

Other news outlets named winners in the Lisagor Awards competition included the Daily Herald, Chicago Sun-Times, WGN-TV, Chicago Tribune, Northwest Herald, WBEZ-FM, Pioneer Press, WFLD-TV, Chicago Reporter, SouthtownStar, Crain’s Chicago Business, The Associated Press, WBBM-AM and WMAQ-TV.

This awards competition was begun in 1977 by the Chicago Headline Club to honor the late Peter Lisagor, who was a renowned reporter and columnist for the Chicago Daily News. He served as the newspaper’s Washington bureau chief from 1959 to 1976.
