  • Brad Dennison, president of GateHouse Media's Large Daily Division, has named Jim Porter the publisher of The Repository.
"Jim has all the tangibles you expect from a publisher," Dennison said. "He understands all aspects of the business. He understands the advertising department and has quickly steeped himself in digital marketing services, an important component of our future. The production area is yet another strength for Jim.
"And he has great respect, understanding and philosophies when it comes to the newsroom's role in the communities we serve – frankly, anything less is a nonstarter for me."
Porter, 48, is a lifelong resident of Stark County. He has been with The Repository for more than 26 years, starting as the circulation promotions manager in 1987 and working his way up to vice president of circulation for Copley Ohio in 2002. He was promoted again to general manager in 2012. In 2001, he was recognized as one of Presstime Magazine's "20 Under 40" and won an International Newspaper Marketing Association award for best overall marketing results.
Porter has served as interim publisher since Chris White left in August. He also will serve as publisher of the other properties in GateHouse Ohio, including The Independent in Massillon, The Times-Reporter in Dover-New Philadelphia and The Suburbanite.
He and his wife, Sarah, have four girls: Kaitlyn, 19; Bayley, 16; Emma, 10; and Reagan, 7. They reside in Jackson Township.
