The Nebraska City News-Press and Syracuse Journal-Democrat staff swept their class' video awards announced Saturday at the Nebraska Press Association banquet.

A spot-news video of the tanker crash and fire near Dunbar on April 1 earned a first place award.

Swanson was able to get in position to observe as Dunbar, Syracuse and Nebraska City firefighters approached the burning semi-trailer that was hauling paper and retail merchandise.

The truck collided with a tanker hauling fuel. There was a rupture in the tanker, but the fuel did not ignite.

Judges from the Alabama Press Association credited Swanson for setting the scene and using still photographs.

Kirt Manion earned a second place award for a high school football video published on the Syracuse Journal-Democrat website.

Swanson received a third place award for a video this fall regarding flood damage near the Highway 2 interchange with Interstate 29.
