On January 25, staff photographers from GateHouse Media New England, along with staff photographers from our news partner, WCVB, set out to depict a day in the life of New England. Readers and viewers were also encouraged to capture slices of New England life between 12:01 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 25, 2010.
The result: Thousands of photos.
An Iraqi war veteran’s face as he goes through physical therapy in a local VA hospital; a lighthouse bathed in the first light of dawn; a nurse buffeted by the wild weather as she makes her way to her car after her shift is over; bank robbery; a fire – these were just some of the images and events that made up a day in the life of New England.
The GateHouse staff and reader photos were gathered on Wicked Local Hot Shots, a web site created to showcase photography. WCVB, GHMNE and viewer photos were featured on the nightly news magazine Chronicle on Feb. 18, “Day in the Life.”
Wicked Local Hot Shots received 1,000 page views an hour the day it debuted, the same day as the news magazine show. As of 2/23, the site had nearly 50,000 page views.
